If you could have any superpower, what would you choose? I was recently asked that by The Raleigh News and Observer for an article they were doing as part of their “small business question of the week.” My response was published on June 24th in Virginia Bridges’ article on the ShopTalk page of the small business section.
As the owner of a Raleigh carpet cleaning service, I was tempted to say “the ability to clean any carpet or rug with the waive of my hand.” But I guess that would be too easy and Ace Rug is already pretty good at getting carpets and rugs cleaned without the use of magical superpowers.
So I thought about her question for a few days and realized the toughest thing in this day and age (and maybe it’s always been this way) is finding enough time to do everything. And not just at work either.
Business owners, you know what I mean … you have to juggle being a good customer service representative, a good salesperson, an accountant, a marketing manager, a leader, etc. and then you finish your 12-hour day and get to go home where even more stuff is waiting on you, particularly if you have kids and a family. No wonder we’re all so stressed out!
Well, I think I came up with the answer, assuming we could get the superpower we wish for.
Are you ready for it? I decided I would clone myself.
I know, I know, one of me is enough for this world to handle, but think about all the stuff you could get done and still have one of you left over to go have fun.
One of me would stay on the front lines greeting customers, answering their rug and carpet cleaning questions and helping coordinate sales. Meanwhile another of my clones would be in the back office taking care of paper work, administrative duties and dealing with all the government red tape of running a business … don’t get me started on that one. Ugh!!! And then of course the “fun me” would be at the beach having a blast with all my friends.
