Do you have a valuable oriental rug or a rug that is a fine family heirloom that’s been handed down for generations? How about 500 years.
The most famous oriental rug in the world is believed to be the Ardabil Carpet. It is woven silk and wool pile. It originally started out as two carpets but earthquake damage in the late 1800’s prompted its curators to take parts from one to repair the other.
The current rug contains more than 33 million hand-tied knots and measures 34’6″x17’6″. This masterpiece was originally made during the 16th Century and is now on display at London’s, Victoria & Albert Museum. It was made for the Mosque at Ardabil, Iran in the 1530’s.
